Silae, a major French payroll and HR software provider, has acquired the legaltech startup Kanoon from its parent company Legalplace. This strategic move marks Silae's official entry into the legal technology sector, aiming to integrate legal services into its existing HR and administrative platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Founded in 2020, Kanoon developed a digital platform that automates the creation of essential legal documents for companies, such as employment contracts, internal regulations, and GDPR compliance kits. Silae's acquisition targets the startup's technology and its team, which will be integrated to develop a new "Legal" module within Silae's software suite. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This acquisition is part of Silae's broader strategy to become a comprehensive "business in one click" solution for SMEs, expanding beyond its core payroll processing. By incorporating Kanoon's automated legal document tools, Silae intends to address a frequent pain point for its SME clients, who often lack in-house legal expertise. The company believes bundling legal, HR, and payroll services will create significant synergies and increase platform stickiness.
The move also reflects the ongoing consolidation in the French B2B software market, where platforms are increasingly adding adjacent functionalities to offer all-in-one solutions. For Legalplace, the sale allows it to refocus resources on its core business of assisting companies with more complex legal procedures.
