The company, which aims to boost the performance of AI chips through advanced optical interconnects, announced the move, elevating Raineri from his previous director-level role—likely part-time—to lead its technical strategy entirely.

NcodiN is developing photonic interconnects that address the data transfer bottlenecks plaguing large-scale AI processors. Its core innovation lies in embedding nanolasers onto silicon photonics platforms, a field where Raineri’s academic work at institutions like C2N (Centre for Nanosciences and Nanotechnology) and Université Paris Cité has been groundbreaking. His full-time commitment signals a maturation push, transitioning the technology from lab to market-ready solutions for chipmakers.

The appointment consolidates Raineri’s direct oversight of R&D, with the startup betting that his deep expertise will accelerate the commercialization of energy-efficient, high-bandwidth optical links that are critical for next-generation AI hardware.
