Clara Chappaz, former director of the French Tech mission, has been appointed to the Élysée Palace as a special advisor on digital and innovation policy for the final stretch of Emmanuel Macron’s term, Maddyness reports. She stepped down in February after nearly three years leading the government-backed startup initiative and now joins the president’s inner circle to shape technology strategy through 2027.

Chappaz, a HEC Paris graduate, built her career in fast-growing digital companies, serving as chief business officer at Vestiaire Collective and previously in senior roles at fashion search engine Lyst. At La French Tech, she was credited with sharpening the mission’s focus on deep tech and artificial intelligence while amplifying the “French Tech” brand abroad, notably through initiatives like the French Tech Next40/120 program and the annual Viva Technology conference. Her tenure coincided with record venture capital inflows and a government push to position France as a startup nation.

In her new role, Chappaz succeeds a departing digital advisor and will work closely with other Élysée counsellors on topics including AI regulation, tech sovereignty, cybersecurity, and the digital transformation of public services. Her arrival signals the administration’s intent to double down on innovation policy as a cornerstone of the “France 2030” investment plan, while also reinforcing ties between the state and the tech ecosystem. In a statement relayed by the presidency, Chappaz said she was “honored to join President Macron’s team” and committed to advancing a “responsible, sovereign, and inclusive digital model.” The Élysée welcomed her “profound understanding of the entrepreneurial fabric” and her ability to bridge business and government in rapidly evolving sectors.
