Analog Devices (ADI) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire California-based Alif Semiconductor for $1.35 billion, strengthening its position in edge AI hardware. With the deal, ADI will add microcontrollers and processors with native AI processing capabilities, aimed at building systems that can perceive, reason and act locally in real time.
The acquisition is designed to expand Analog Devices’ portfolio beyond traditional analog and mixed-signal products into intelligent embedded computing for industrial and other edge applications. By bringing Alif into the group, ADI gains technology intended to support low-latency, on-device decision-making rather than relying on cloud processing.
The transaction underscores the growing demand for semiconductor platforms that combine sensing, computation and control at the edge, where speed, power efficiency and autonomy are increasingly critical.
