Intel has acquired full ownership of its Fab 34 semiconductor manufacturing facility in Leixlip, Ireland, by purchasing the 49% stake held by asset management firm Apollo Global Management for $14.2 billion. This transaction dissolves the joint venture established to finance the advanced chip plant, returning complete strategic and operational control to Intel.
The Fab 34 facility is a cornerstone of Intel's manufacturing strategy, specializing in the production of cutting-edge chips using Intel 4 and Intel 3 process technologies. Regaining full ownership allows Intel to directly capture all the facility's output and financial returns, aligning with its broader IDM 2.0 strategy to expand its internal manufacturing capacity and external foundry services.
This buyout represents a significant financial commitment, reflecting the site's high strategic value. Intel's move consolidates its assets amid intense global competition in semiconductor manufacturing and supports its goal of re-establishing process leadership. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.
