Mynaric is a key player in developing optical inter-satellite links, a critical technology for building high-speed, secure data relay networks in space, often referred to as "space fiber." Its terminals are designed for use on satellites, aircraft, and drones.
This strategic acquisition allows Rocket Lab to vertically integrate laser communications technology into its broader space infrastructure business, which includes satellite manufacturing, components, and launch services. The move strengthens Rocket Lab's position in the growing market for satellite constellations and networked space systems, where high-bandwidth data transfer between spacecraft is essential. The German government's approval signals a significant consolidation in the New Space sector, transferring a major European lasercom asset to U.S. ownership.
