Qonto
Qonto, the French fintech specializing in business banking, has completed a new acquisition to strengthen its accounting capabilities. This move enhances Qonto's integrated financial management platform for SMEs and freelancers, aiming to streamline accounting workflows. The acquisition bolsters Qonto's position as an all-in-one finance solution in the competitive European fintech market.
Qonto has acquired French accounting software startup Regate to deepen its financial management offering for small and medium-sized enterprises. The deal, for an undisclosed sum, gives the business neobank access to Regate’s automated accounting, invoicing, and expense management tools, which will be gradually integrated into Qonto’s platform over the coming months.
The move comes as Qonto seeks to move beyond core banking services—accounts, cards, transfers—and position itself as an all-in-one financial operating system for the 450,000 businesses it already serves across Europe. Regate, founded in 2020 and previously backed by investors including AG2R La Mondiale and NewAlpha, has built a product that connects directly with accounting firms, automates data entry, and syncs transactions in real time. Its customer base of several thousand companies and 500 accounting firms will now transition to Qonto.
“Our ambition is to be the solution that covers every financial need, from payments to accounting,” said Qonto CEO and co-founder Alexandre Prot. “Bringing Regate on board accelerates our capability to automate the most painful parts of financial admin for entrepreneurs.” Regate’s co-founders, Laura Martineau and Alexis Lecuyer, will join Qonto to lead the accounting product line.
The acquisition intensifies competition in the French fintech landscape, where rivals such as Pennylane have also raised large rounds to combine banking and accounting tools. Qonto, valued at €4.4 billion after its last funding round in early 2022, has been expanding both organically and through M&A—it previously acquired German competitor Penta in 2022 to enter the DACH market. The integration of Regate is expected to begin with access to invoicing features later this year, with full accounting automation rolling out throughout 2025. Pricing details for the expanded service have not yet been disclosed.
