Safran Electronics & Defense is investing €20 million to modernize its Dijon production site, scaling up output of defense optronics to meet accelerating demand from French and allied armed forces. The upgrade will both renovate facilities and boost manufacturing lines for sights, sensors, targeting pods, and other optronic systems that are central to modern battle-space awareness. As part of the expansion, 200 additional staff will be recruited by 2030. This local initiative follows broader recent disclosure of €120 million in overall investment plans from Safran, underscoring an industrial ramp-up driven by the sharp rise in military orders since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Dijon plant, a strategic pillar in Safran’s optronics network, produces equipment such as the PASEO long-range sight and Euroflir observation systems. The cash injection is meant to shorten lead times, increase annual throughput, and solidify France’s sovereign supply chain at a moment when frontline forces require faster delivery cycles and surge capacity. The effect will be twofold: enhanced readiness for French and NATO operators, and a strengthened position for Safran in a competitive export market where integrated optronics are a key differentiator.
