The French defence procurement agency (Direction générale de l’armement – DGA) has awarded the Cameleon framework agreement to Greenerwave, a French deeptech startup, for the development of next-generation satellite communications (Satcom) terminals destined for the armed forces. The contract, with a maximum value of €120 million over seven years, will be executed in partnership with Airbus Defence & Space and Thales.
Greenerwave, known for its reconfigurable intelligent surface technology that dynamically shapes electromagnetic waves, will design compact, high-performance terminals suited to contested and mobile operational environments. Airbus and Thales, as prime contractors, will provide system integration and secure communication architectures. The Cameleon programme aims to equip French forces with sovereign, resilient Satcom capabilities that can operate across military frequency bands and resist jamming.
For Greenerwave, the award marks a decisive entry into large-scale defence supply, while reinforcing the DGA’s strategy of harnessing disruptive civil innovations. No detailed timeline or unit quantities were disclosed.
