Mathieu Viallard, co-founder and former chief commercial officer of the car rental platform Virtuo, has joined the startup studio Hexa as a venture partner. His mandate is to help the studio’s portfolio of B2B SaaS startups overcome scaling bottlenecks and break through the so-called glass ceiling that often stifles growth past the early stages.

Hexa, originally founded as eFounders, has built over 40 software companies including Aircall, Spendesk, and Front. It operates by actively shaping startups from ideation, handling design, product, and engineering, while recruiting co-founders and injecting initial capital. Viallard will now bring a seasoned operator’s perspective to that process, focusing not on early ideation but on post-launch acceleration.

During his eight years at Virtuo, Viallard helped take the company from an idea to a European operation with hundreds of employees, a fleet of thousands of vehicles, and a pan-European presence spanning France, the UK, Spain, and Italy. His experience in scaling operations, go-to-market execution, and navigating hypergrowth will be applied to Hexa’s companies that have already found product-market fit and are looking to expand internationally, refine sales motions, and build mature organizational structures.

The move reflects Hexa’s deliberate effort to strengthen the operational muscle it offers founders beyond the 0-to-1 phase. Rather than simply adding capital or design resources, the studio is embedding seasoned scale-up expertise to reduce the failure rate during the critical transition from startup to scale-up. Viallard will work directly with founders and leadership teams as a strategic sounding board, while also contributing to Hexa’s internal playbooks and hiring practices.

His arrival signals that Hexa is increasingly focused on retention and value creation across its portfolio, ensuring that companies not only launch successfully but also build the endurance to reach significant market impact. The appointment also aligns with broader trends in the startup studio model, where operational knowledge is becoming as valuable as initial venture design.
