Neel Institute Announces 2024 Prize Recipients
The Neel Institute (CNRS) in Grenoble has awarded its annual prizes to early-career researchers in condensed matter physics and related engineering fields. The awards recognize outstanding doctoral theses defended in 2023.
The Prix Neel was awarded to Dr. Ulysse Delmer for his thesis, “*Quantum simulation with ultracold atoms in an artificial gauge field*,” completed at the Institut d’Optique Graduate School (LP2N, IOGS, CNRS, Université de Bordeaux). His experimental work with Bose-Einstein condensates successfully engineered synthetic magnetic fields to simulate and probe quantum Hall physics.
The Prix Louis Néel was awarded to Dr. Ilaria Maccari for her thesis, “*Magnetism and superconductivity in two-dimensional materials probed by scanning tunneling microscopy*,” completed at the Neel Institute (CNRS). Her research utilized advanced scanning probe techniques at ultra-low temperatures to investigate magnetic and superconducting states in atomically thin materials like chromium telluride and niobium diselenide heterostructures.
Each prize is accompanied by a €3,000 award. The selection committee, chaired by Institut Neel Director Anaïs Raoux, emphasized the exceptional quality, clarity, and potential impact of the winning work in pushing the frontiers of quantum matter research.
