NXP Semiconductors has laid the foundation stone for its future smart factory in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, a site expected to come online in early 2028. The new facility will add more than 46,000 square meters of production space and significantly expand the company’s in-house chip packaging and testing capabilities.
The Dutch semiconductor group is positioning the project as a major step in strengthening its manufacturing footprint in Asia. By bringing more encapsulation and test operations internally, NXP aims to increase capacity, improve control over production, and support future demand across its chip portfolio.
The Petaling Jaya plant is part of a broader industrial strategy centered on smarter, more integrated manufacturing. Once operational, it should effectively double NXP’s packaging and testing capacity in Malaysia, reinforcing the country’s role as a key hub in the company’s global supply chain.
