TSMC will raise its U.S. investment to $265 billion, adding $100 billion announced this summer to fund four new fabrication plants in Arizona. The expansion will bring TSMC’s total U.S. footprint to 12 factories, making it the largest foreign direct investment ever made in the country.
The move underscores the Taiwanese foundry’s deepening commitment to U.S. manufacturing at a time when Washington is pushing to rebuild domestic semiconductor capacity and reduce reliance on Asian supply chains. The new Arizona facilities are part of that broader industrial strategy, with the White House and the U.S. Department of Commerce having been central to the discussions around the project.
By scaling up its American presence so dramatically, TSMC is positioning itself as a key partner in the U.S. effort to secure advanced chip production onshore, while also reinforcing its own global manufacturing network.
