Micron is investing $10 billion to launch Micron Research Labs in Boise, Idaho, a new research institute it describes as the first in the United States dedicated specifically to memory technology. The center is intended to bring together universities, startups and industrial partners to work on the memory systems that will underpin next-generation AI technologies.
Alongside the lab, Micron also announced the creation of a dedicated AI investment fund, further signaling its intent to position itself at the center of the AI infrastructure stack. The company is betting that advances in memory will be as critical as compute in shaping future AI performance, and that building a research ecosystem around the technology will help accelerate innovation in the sector.
