Legrand is preparing a major reshaping of its French industrial footprint, with plans to close four factories by the end of 2028 while investing more than €80 million to strengthen four other sites in France.
The closures would affect plants in Isère, Charente-Maritime, Charente and Haute-Vienne, and would result in the elimination of 178 jobs. At the same time, the electrical equipment group intends to channel significant capital into selected domestic facilities as part of a broader industrial reorganization.
The company recently presented the project to employee representative bodies, outlining an evolution of its manufacturing base in France. The move reflects a strategy of concentrating production on fewer sites while upgrading capacity elsewhere, rather than maintaining the current distributed footprint.
Legrand has not only framed the plan as a downsizing exercise, but also as an investment program aimed at reinforcing four French sites that will remain central to its industrial network. The company is seeking to balance the social impact of the closures with a long-term effort to modernize and consolidate its operations in France.
