Infineon Technologies has signed a definitive agreement to sell its NOR Flash and F-RAM businesses to Taiwan-based memory supplier Winbond Electronics for $1.12 billion, as the German chipmaker sharpens its portfolio around its main growth engines.
The divestment is part of Infineon’s strategy to focus on higher-priority areas while keeping its specialized memory offerings, including radiation-hardened solutions used in demanding environments. The company is not exiting the broader specialty memory market entirely, but is narrowing its scope to segments more closely aligned with its long-term growth plans.
Winbond, a major player in memory chips, will take over the NOR Flash and F-RAM activities under the terms of the deal. Infineon did not disclose additional transaction details in the short announcement, but the move marks a significant portfolio reshaping for the German group as it continues to streamline its business mix.
