Scaleway, the cloud subsidiary of French telecom group Iliad, has been selected to provide cloud infrastructure for aerospace giant Airbus. The multi-year deal, confirmed by both companies, positions Scaleway as a strategic partner for hosting and managing sensitive industrial data, including design files, supply chain information, and proprietary simulation workloads. The contract is valued at a significant but undisclosed sum, reportedly in the tens of millions of euros over its duration, and was awarded following a competitive tender that included global hyperscalers.

Airbus cited Scaleway’s adherence to strict European data sovereignty standards, its SecNumCloud certification from France’s cybersecurity agency ANSSI, and its ability to deliver high-performance computing tailored to aeronautic requirements as key factors. The partnership will involve a dedicated private cloud environment, integrating Scaleway’s GPU-accelerated instances for AI-driven design optimization and its Kubernetes-based container platform. Airbus also gains full control over encryption keys, ensuring no foreign legal access to its data.

Scaleway CEO Damien Lucas noted that the win “validates our model of a trusted, sovereign cloud for critical industries,” echoing Airbus CIO Catherine Jestin’s emphasis on “technological autonomy within a secure European ecosystem.” The pact comes as European companies accelerate moves away from US-dominated cloud services, bolstered by the Gaia-X initiative and heightened regulatory pressure. For Scaleway, it marks a marquee reference client that could attract other aerospace and defense customers, while Airbus deepens its digital transformation without compromising compliance or data residency.
